The situation on treatment against locusts remains difficult

In Aktobe and Kostanay regions, 81% and 87% of territories have been treated from the forecasted volume, the situation in these regions remains difficult, World of NAN reports with reference to the government.

To date, protective measures have been completed on 2.3 million hectares of the 2.5 million hectares of territories planned for chemical treatment.

‘The prolonged heavy rains and strong winds did not allow for timely and optimal chemical treatments. Therefore, there is a possibility of increasing the area of treatments. We plan to mobilise additional equipment on the ground. The necessary amount of drugs is available,’ said Darhan Abdikarimov, chairman of the State Inspection Committee.

In East Kazakhstan, Kyzylorda, Pavlodar, North Kazakhstan oblasts and Ulytau oblast, protective measures against locusts are fully completed. In Abai, Zhetisu, Akmola, Almaty, Atyrau, Zhambyl, West-Kazakhstan and Karaganda oblasts, treatment is still ongoing.
