The Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan has issued a forecast for the wheat harvest at 16 million tons. The Union of Field Farmers, which analyzed data and opinions, disagrees with this estimate, World of NAN reports.
According to a preliminary estimate by the Union of Field Farmers, the country's wheat harvest will not exceed 10 million tons.
"The first phase of the vegetation was successful, but the sun did not allow the ear to develop. That is, there is not much grain in the ear. Therefore, there is a difference between the species yield and the actual yield. The yield seems to be at the level of 15 c/ha, but when threshed it is much lower. And such cases are not merely one or two, it is about 80-90% of cases", - explained the head of the Union of Field Farmers of Kazakhstan Victor Aslanov on his facebook page.
According to his data, the average yield in the Akmola region will be about 5 c/ha. Although the yield of 7 c/ha is necessary to recoup the cost of production. In other regions, too, one should not expect a rich harvest because of pest infestation and abnormal heat. So far, only the northern parts of Kostanai Region and West Kazakhstan Region look favourable.
"As far as farmers are concerned, this is a very bad year, so we are preparing a number of appeals to government bodies," Victor Aslanov concluded.
