A senator proposed to create large-scale enterprises for processing hides

Senate deputy Zhanbolat Zhorgenbayev has raised the problem of processing hides. He suggested that the government create large processing enterprises and revise the system of subsidizing them, reports World of NAN.

Currently, there are more than 10 tanneries in the country processing cattle hides. Their total capacity is up to 4 million hides a year, but they are only 30% utilized. In January-November last year the processing decreased by 55%. Among the key problems of the industry is the low quality of products produced in small peasant and farm households. Also, processors lack working capital for raw materials, a high degree of wear and tear of equipment and underdeveloped procurement system.

According to the deputy, the problem can be solved by the creation of tanneries and large enterprises for processing semi-fine wool. The Ministry of Agriculture is now developing a comprehensive plan for the development of agricultural processing until 2028. In this regard, the senator addressed a number of proposals to the head of the Cabinet of Ministers.

"First, it is necessary to provide for investment subsidies for the purchase of equipment and machinery for leather production. It is also necessary to provide subsidies and tax incentives for the purchase of raw materials for the production of animal hides processing. There is an urgent need to create service and procurement centers for fur and wool collection in each region. And, finally, it is necessary to provide for mechanisms to strengthen administration and control when developing a new digital platform for animal registration," concluded the senator.
