Prices of rice and beef are rising across the country

The price situation for the week and the availability of socially important food products in the regions of the country were discussed at a weekly meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Trade and Integration Serik Zhumangarin, reports World of NAN.

According to the Ministry of Trade, last week the prices of socially important food products increased by 0.2%.

"There is a low seasonal increase in prices of vegetables - cabbage, onions, carrots and potatoes. There was an increase in rice and beef. Prices for bread, chicken, butter, milk, kefir, salt and cottage cheese are stable. In addition, the price of buckwheat continued to decline for the third month in a row. Prices of eggs, flour, sugar and horns have fallen over the week," said the press service of the ministry.

Separately, the situation with continuing growth of rice prices. Over the week national average growth rate was 0.7%, the largest index by region - in Ulytau, Karaganda, Almaty and Turkestan regions. According to the akimat of Kyzylorda region, today the reserve product in the amount of 6 thousand tons at a price of 380 tenge. Seven regions have bought 1,021 tonnes of rice from producers in Kyzylorda Region. Deputy Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Commerce in conjunction with the Ministry of Agriculture to hold a meeting with rice growers of the country in the near future to identify the causes of rising prices and urgent problems of the business.

Vice Minister of Agriculture Yerbol Taszhurekov reported on availability of stocks of last year's crop for off-season and results of early harvesting.

According to the data given, stocks of potatoes in the republic make up 107,6 thousand tons at need of population till the end of May in 40,7 thousand tons, till the end of June - 101,7 thousand tons. Thus, the overall balance of this vegetable in the country for May-June is secured, and the regions with a balance of potatoes below the required level need to negotiate with deliveries from other regions. There are contracts for the supply of early vegetables from the southern regions in May for 1.3 thousand tons (Zhambyl region, Zhetisu region, Shymkent), in June for 5.6 thousand tons (Zhetisu region, Aktobe region, Zhambyl region and Shymkent). Contracts for the supply of imported potatoes totaling 12.4 thousand tons ( West Kazakhstan region, East Kazakhstan region, Aktobe region, Almaty and Astana).

In Turkestan region from the first ten days of May the early potatoes are harvested in the amount of 5.8 thousand tons. In June gross output is expected in the amount of 109,5 thousand tons, in July - 108,8 thousand tons. In addition, in Almaty region is planned to collect early potatoes in the amount of 37.8 thousand tons, in June - 3.5 thousand tons, in July - 34.3 thousand tons. 

Stocks of carrots from last year's crop are also within the required supply. There are contracts for the supply of imported carrots in the amount of 2.9 thousand tons (Zhambyl, West Kazakhstan region, East Kazakhstan region, Aktobe region, Almaty, Shymkent and Astana). Gross yield of early carrots in Turkestan region is expected in the amount of 30.3 thousand tons, of which in June - 980 tons, in July - 29.3 thousand tons.

The situation for onions and cabbage is different. If in May the level of the last year stocks of these vegetables in the country is within the required supply, in June it is not enough. Contracts for imported onions amount to 4.5 thousand tons. In June-July the early onions in Zhambyl and Turkestan regions are expected to be harvested in the amount of 161.2 thousand tons, which will cover the needs of the population before the autumn harvest.

In Turkestan region, early cabbage has been harvested since April. To date, 68.7 thousand tons are harvested, by the end of July we expect to harvest 125,000 tons. According to Yerbol Taszhurekov, domestic market demand can be met by early cabbage from Turkestan region.

By results of the meeting Serik Zhumangarin instructed to check availability and quality of last year's crop, as well as to hold a meeting with suppliers of vegetables and stabilization funds to clarify the need for early vegetables.
