Turkish company will process hides in Kazakhstan

A Turkish company will invest US$27 million in processing of cattle skins and construction of a gelatin plant in Kazakhstan, World of NAN reported citing the Ministry of Agriculture.

During the recent visit of Kazakhstan's Minister of Agriculture Y. Karashukeyev as a member of the presidential delegation to Turkey, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan and the Turkish company.

The parties agreed on the company's investment in the construction of a gelatin plant in Almaty. The project will be realized in 2022-2023. The expected number of new jobs - more than 100. The enterprise will be launched in the industrial zone. Cattle hides will be used as raw material.

Construction of the plant is expected to start this year and put into operation in 2023. Capacity will be 7000 tons of gelatin a year.

There are 9 enterprises for primary processing of leather in the republic. But, processing companies can not offer agricultural producers a competitive purchase price for raw cattle hides.  Small and private farms throw the hides into landfills, creating the risk of spreading particularly dangerous animal diseases. Incidentally, the processing of 7,000 tons of gelatin requires about 38 thousand tons of raw materials (skins).

It should be noted that Turkish Holding includes 7 plants for processing of skins, plants for production of gelatin, protein, hydrolyzate, liquid amino acids of animal origin, as well as a research center and testing laboratories. Today the holding is an integrated Turkish producer in the tanning industry, accounting for 6% of global beef gelatin needs with markets in Europe and Asia.
