Turkey will send 1,000 tons of cotton seeds to farmers in Kazakhstan

Turkish businessmen will provide Kazakh farmers with 1,000 tons of high-quality cotton seeds on favorable terms. The agreement was reached in Shymkent at the business forum "Prospects for Cotton Production Development in the Republic of Kazakhstan", World of NAN reports.

Invited guests from the Republic of Turkey - the company "PROgen" presented new varieties of cotton, resistant to diseases and pests, which will be sold to domestic growers in installments.

"Agricultural Production Cooperative "Turkestan" is ready to provide a loan for the purchase of seeds by the end of the year. Earlier, a memorandum of cooperation on the development of seed production was signed between Kazakhstan and Turkey", - was told in the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The business forum was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, Turkish businessmen, manufacturers of raw cotton, representatives of cotton processing plants, research organizations, factories producing cotton oil, as well as producers of cotton seeds.

Vice-Minister of Agriculture Abulkhair Tamabek addressed the forum participants. He noted the importance of developing the cotton growing industry.

"The issue of increasing the share of Kazakhstani content in state procurement, including household goods and cotton processing products, is being worked out. At the first stage, the national companies will have to buy up to 70% of domestic cotton products: bed linen, towels, etc. When forming the state defense order, it is also planned to increase the share of local content from 30% to 70%," said the Vice Minister.

To date, the main goal of the industry is to make cotton production competitive and highly profitable through the introduction of specific market mechanisms.

At the end of the business forum between the Institute of Agricultural Research of the Eastern Mediterranean of the Republic of Turkey and "Agricultural Experiment Station of Cotton and Melon Growing" LLP an agreement was signed on cooperation on joint scientific research, development of new varieties of cotton.
