The scientist proposes to open combines for saiga meat production

Murat Nurushev, doctor of biological sciences of Kazakhstan, professor of the international university "Astana" considers it necessary to launch specialized combines for the production of saiga meat, the World of NAN reports with reference to "Kazinform".

"Before we open a meat processing plant, we need to know clearly what kinds of products we will make from saigas. Everything should go for processing, from horns to hooves. We need specialized meat processing plants. Why? Because they fall ill with some diseases, and farm animals with others. And in order to avoid the infection passing from one animal to another, we must have a specialized line and a different processing system," said Murat Nurushev after a briefing at Kazhydromet.

According to the scientist, saiga meat will be very popular because of its properties.

"100 grams of saiga meat should cost about $100. There are a lot of people abroad who want it because it is very beneficial. Saigas cull every 50 species of vegetation, by comparison, horses cull every 8. This has allowed them to survive since the days of mammoths and woolly rhinoceroses and survive to this day. If we study them more deeply, perhaps we will have several Nobel Prize winners," the speaker added.

As previously reported, 750 million tenge is planned to allocate for the study of saigas in semi-wild conditions.

As a reminder, over 90% of the global saiga population lives in Kazakhstan. In connection with the reduction of the number of saiga antelopes (up to 21 thousand in 2003) the Government of the RK has taken a number of comprehensive measures for their protection, including a moratorium on their use, which has been extended until 2024. However, the Ministry of Ecology is now considering the issue of culling a certain number of saigas for scientific purposes in four regions of the country.
