Salary increase by 60%, medical benefits promised to veterinarians

Yerbol Karashukeyev, Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, spoke in Mazhilis about how much veterinarian salaries will increase, reports World of NAN referring to Zakon.kz.

"As of April 1 this year, on average, salaries of veterinarians in the republic were increased by 33.4% at the expense of higher tariffs for execution of state order. By the end of the year it is planned to be increased further up to 60%", - said the Minister of Agriculture.

The specialized department also plans to increase the volume of paid types of services provided by communal veterinary enterprises in areas where there is no competitive sector. For this purpose, tariffs for types of paid services are approved everywhere.

"With the passage of the relevant laws, from next year it is expected to implement a 50% surcharge for PUI and a 140% surcharge on the base salary for PUE and PUIs. It also introduces the payment of two salaries as a wellness allowance. We believe that these measures will greatly increase the attractiveness and prestige of the profession," the Minister said.

According to him, at present, veterinarians are paid the least in the agricultural sector. At present the average monthly salary of veterinarians in communal enterprises varies by regions from 80 thousand in Kyzylorda region, to 200 thousand in Pavlodar region.

The average age of veterinarians in the republic is 40-55 years old. The veterinary sector, as stated by the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, lacks young highly qualified personnel.

"Lack of earning opportunities corresponding to the trends of modern society, difficult working conditions, undeveloped infrastructure in rural areas led to the unattractiveness of the profession of veterinarian among young people," said Yerbol Karashukeyev.

Earlier, the Minister of Agriculture stated the need to create a single distributor for the procurement of drugs to ensure veterinary security of the country on the type of "SK-Pharmacy".
