Uzbekistan has adopted a presidential decree on measures to create a climate-resilient agro-ecosystem and increase the resilience of agricultural producers to the risks associated with climate change. This is reported by World of NAN with reference to Norma.uz.
The document approves the National Programme on Adaptation of Agriculture to Climate Change and Mitigation of Negative Impact on Climate.
It also approved the composition of the Interdepartmental Working Group to coordinate the implementation of the National Programme and defined its main tasks as follows:
- Development and implementation in practice of scientifically based proposals on adaptation of agriculture to climate change;
- development of an early warning system for agricultural producers on the threat of emergencies (including abnormal temperature changes, mudflows and floods, hail and drought), as well as those related to locusts and other pests;
- implementation of projects on adaptation of agriculture to climate change using loans and grants from international financial institutions and state budget funds, as well as establishing co-operation with foreign countries;
- improving the environmental culture of farmers, agriculturalists and agro-cluster workers, as well as regular improvement of their knowledge and skills in adapting the agricultural sector to climate change.
