Europe's cereal harvest suffers due to bad weather

The EU Commission's Crop Monitoring Agency (MARS) has revised its yield forecasts downwards for almost all crops in July, World of NAN reports.

The most significant downward revisions were for sunflower, grain maize and field peas. However, forecasts for spring barley and durum wheat were revised upwards.

The main reasons for the lowered yield expectations are hot and dry conditions in south-eastern Europe, while large areas in the west continue to experience unfavourable extremely wet conditions.

In Kazakhstan, however, the situation is still stable. According to the forecast of the Ministry of Agriculture, 17 million tonnes of wheat are expected to be harvested. However, problems may arise in some regions due to high humidity and plant diseases, and harvesting is also becoming more difficult in the southern part of the country.
