The demand for rice in Uzbekistan is growing exponentially

At present, rice ranks third among the staple foods in Uzbekistan. It is necessary to meet the needs of the population of 36.5 million people, based on the annual average norm of 9.8kg, World of NAN reported with reference to uz.sputniknews.

While in 2013 the country needed 294,000 tonnes of rice, by 2024 it will need 358,000 tonnes. The demand has increased by 122% and the need for rice will only grow, and by 2030 it will increase by another 400 thousand tonnes.

Currently, rice is cultivated in all regions of the country, except Samarkand and Kashkadarya provinces. Rice fields are gradually expanding. At present, in Syrdarya, Tashkent, Fergana, Namangan and Andijan regions they are being gradually increased to 25-30 thousand hectares, where rice is grown as a second crop.

According to preliminary estimates, for the harvest of 2024 in the republic is planned to plant rice on a total of 115 thousand hectares of land, the total plan is to harvest up to 600 thousand tonnes.
