Fields are being treated against locusts in Kazakhstan

102.4 thousand hectares of land have been treated against the Italian locust in the Aktobe region, where there is an infestation of insects, reports World of NAN.

"As for the Irgiz district of the region, which became the epicenter of the locusts, 27.5 thousand hectares have been treated there. There is no damage of agricultural land by the pests. Monitoring and control measures against locusts are under special control," commented the situation in the Ministry of Agriculture.

Earlier experts predicted the spread of herd pests in Irgiz area of 128.7 thousand hectares, including the Italian Locust - 106.7 thousand hectares and the Asian Locust - 21.9 thousand hectares. Pesticides have been delivered to the district to control the insects on the entire projected area.

Nationwide, 3.8 billion tenge is allocated from the national budget to control herd pests this year, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture said.

According to experts, locusts can spread to 1.6 million hectares.

"To combat these insects pesticides of various phytosanitary purposes on an area of 1.4 million hectares have been purchased. Given the existing stock of pesticides (383.5 thousand hectares), the treatment area will be brought to 1.77 million hectares. Together with the akimats it was created operational headquarters in the regions and approved the work plan for monitoring and chemical treatment", - assured the Ministry of Agriculture.

Currently, protective measures against the Italian pest are conducted in Aktobe, Almaty, Atyrau, Zhambyl, Zhetysu, West Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Kostanai, Kyzylorda and Pavlodar regions. To date 248.4 thousand hectares were treated.

Protective measures against Asian locusts started in Atyrau and Kyzylorda regions, treated 4.4 thousand hectares.

Chemical treatments against locusts in Zhambyl region is fully completed. Protective measures in Turkestan region are being completed. The treatment area amounted to 78.4 thousand ha.

On the territories bordering neighboring states joint surveys will be carried out. About this specialists of Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan agreed in advance with colleagues from Russia, China and Uzbekistan.
