Production of dairy products is decreasing in Kazakhstan

At the government meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov, the implementation of the Food Security Plan 2022-2024 was considered. The production of butter, milk, cheese and cottage cheese is declining in the country, said Minister of Agriculture Yerbol Karashukeyev at the meeting, World of NAN reports.

According to him, the Plan of Food Security 2022-2024 provides for 31 activities, including 17 on the increase of production volumes, development of agricultural science and storage of goods, 7 on stabilization of food prices, and 7 on safety and quality of food products.

In general, by the end of 2022 the volume of food production grew by 3.9% to 2.9 trillion tenge. In this case, there is an increase in the production of major food products: vegetable oil, flour, pasta, cereals, sausages and sugar.

" Supply from domestic production in 2022 increased for sausage products from 56.4% to 61%, for apples - 73.7% to 75.6%, for poultry - from 65.4% to 68%, for sugar - from 42.6% to 51%. At the same time there is a decrease in cheese and cottage cheese from 56% to 53%. Thus, again, there is a decrease in dairy products. This confirms the fact that to date the production of dairy products is problematic, due to non-sufficient supply of raw materials," said the Minister of Agriculture. 

For production of dairy products the project on replication of positive experience of North Kazakhstan region in preferential financing of construction of large commodity dairy farms through regional agricultural complexes is implemented. As a result of realization of the project domestic dairy plants will be provided with qualitative raw materials and import dependence on milk will be considerably decreased.

For these purposes in 2023 it is planned to allocate 100 billion tenge for creation of 65 dairy farms with production capacity of 373 thousand tons of milk a year. According to the minister, plans for the following years to build additional 50 dairy farms, which requires 113 billion tenge.
