A new variety of cotton has been developed in Kazakhstan

Turkestan scientists have created a cotton plant that is resistant to dangerous pests and to different soil and climatic conditions, World of NAN reports with reference to Khabar 24.

Employees of the Cotton Research Institute spent two years observing the plant on experimental fields. They were satisfied with the result. Breeders say that the new Kazakh variety of cotton is precocious, drought-resistant, salt-resistant, easily tolerates close groundwater.

Farmers in Zhetysay district decided to plant the new variety en masse this year. They hope that it will be possible to increase the yield to 42-45 quintals per hectare.

"In Zhetysay district, four farms are already engaged in reproduction of the new variety of cotton, which was created by our scientists. According to preliminary forecasts, 1,800 tons of seeds will be needed. Of these, almost 70% are already ready. The demand of not only our district, but also the neighboring ones will be met," said Asan Makhambetov, deputy Akim of Zhetysai district.
