A network of feeding grounds for sheep will be established in five regions of the country

Minister of Agriculture Saparkhan Omarov spoke about plans to increase the number of sheep, reports the correspondent of MIA "Kazinform".

"In sheep breeding, the main task is to increase the number of sheep and develop anchor cooperation. The project of anchor cooperation on sheep breeding in Zhambyl region is being successfully implemented. At present, a project on construction of a modern lamb meat processing complex with German company Bauman is being worked out in Almaty region," Saparkhan Omarov said at a government meeting.

According to him, in order to ensure the year-round work of the enterprise it is planned to create a network of feeding sites in five regions.

"For these purposes, the Ministry has already provided for subsidies for part of investment in the construction of feeding sites. Last year 1059 farms were financed to purchase 374 thousand breeding stock of sheep. This year, according to the plan, we plan to credit the purchase of 360 thousand sheep. In fact, 28 thousand heads have been financed now. But I would like to draw attention to the fact that the work has not yet started in most regions," the Minister said.

He stressed that sheep breeding has a great potential in increasing exports.

"Our exporters have positive experience in supplying Kazakh lamb to the markets of the Persian Gulf countries and China. But taking into account the low interest of farms in increasing the number of sheep, this year the Ministry has revised the existing measures of support of sheep breeding together with the industry association. The mechanisms for subsidizing have been finalized. The relevant draft amendments are being agreed upon by government agencies," the head of the Ministry concluded.
