Russia will harvest less good quality grain

European analytical agency MARS has reduced its estimate of the gross wheat harvest in Russia to 89.66 million tons, World of NAN reports with reference to "Zerno On-Line".

Problems with the quality of winter and spring grains are also expected due to excessively wet weather conditions at the harvesting stage. Winter wheat harvest is estimated at 63.658 million tons, while spring wheat harvest is estimated at 26.002 million tons. Yields of both crops are expected at 42.2 and 19.5 centners per hectare, which is 2.3 and 4.4 centners less than a year earlier.

In the European part of Russia, due to moderate temperatures and sufficient precipitation, the high yield potential of grains was maintained in the southern and southwestern regions. At the same time, the quality of winter wheat in the western regions deteriorated due to excessively wet weather conditions in July. In the Asian part of Russia, persistent precipitation deficits in the eastern Urals and almost all of Western Siberia had a negative impact on biomass accumulation and grain yield of spring crops. In other regions of Siberia and the Urals weather conditions were generally normal, but during all this time and now due to heavy and prolonged rains the pace of harvesting is suffering.

It should be reminded that Russia is Kazakhstan's main competitor for grain exports. Wheat pricing also depends on its neighbors. The situation with difficult harvesting in Russia may give a chance to increase the cost of the crop on the market.
