Gross output in crop production is up 15.1% for 2022

A few days ago, the Bureau of National Statistics released its annual gross agricultural output data for the year 2022. Recall that gross output is the total value of products and services both for sale and for own consumption. That is, literally, everything that was produced by agriculture at current prices, reports World of NAN.

Gross output rose from 7.5 billion to 9.5 billion tenge last year. However, it should be understood that when adjusted for inflation, real growth was only 9.1 percent, which is nevertheless the best result since 2013. At that time, real growth was 9.7%, and the average annual growth in 2014-2021 was only 2.5%. Therefore, agriculture can safely take credit for 2022.

However, only crop growers can boast of growth, as for the most part they are the ones who contributed almost all of it. Real growth in gross output in crop production increased by 15.1%, which is also the best result since 2013 (+16.9%). The regions with the strongest growth in crop production were Kostanai (+73%), Akmola (+34%), West Kazakhstan region (+32%) and Aktobe region (+24%). The main factor was the growth of total gross output of grain by 35%.

Livestock breeders have shown a modest growth of only 0.8% by the end of 2022. Gross output increased most strongly in Mangistau region (+10%), but the share of this region is very low and therefore had little impact on the overall result. Of the more or less large regions the best was East Kazakhstan region (+6.8%), and the worst was Kostanay region (-9.2%). As a result, the share of crop production in gross output of agriculture continues to grow for the fourth consecutive year, reaching 61%, and the share of livestock decreased from 41% to 38%.
