Water-saving technologies will cover 50 per cent of irrigated lands

The Ministry of Water Resources has set this target by 2030. The Ministry of Water Resources plans to stimulate farmers with subsidies for the purchase of water-saving technologies, which have reached 80%, reports World of NAN.

Agriculture consumes 60% of the total amount of water accumulated in Kazakhstan, which is more than 40 tons per day.

The Ministry has developed other measures to encourage farmers to save water. In particular, the new Water Code provides for state support measures in the form of subsidies and reduced water tariffs depending on the introduction of water-saving technologies. It is also proposed to calculate tariffs depending on the types of crops grown and the amount of water they consume. In addition, subsidies for well drilling have increased to 80 per cent.

Using these tools, it is planned to save up to 2.1 billion cubic meters of water per year by the end of 2030.
