The World Bank will finance agriculture reform in Kazakhstan

The Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan Y.Karashukeyev met with the leadership of the World Bank in the U.S. capital Washington. During the talks, the parties agreed to cooperate on the World Bank's program to support agricultural development in our country, World of NAN reports, referring to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The World Bank has established the Technical Assistance Program to support interested countries in assessing feasible and concrete options in the context of revision and reorientation of their current policies and the support of agriculture. The program is already collaborating with 13 countries to support them in their analytical work and to provide technically, economically, and socially feasible reform options. As part of its assistance to reshape agricultural policy, the Bank organizes high-level policy roundtables to raise global awareness and build consensus to mobilize efforts toward a transition to sustainable agriculture.

The Minister of Agriculture, Yerbol Karashukeyev, at a meeting with the World Bank management, discussed the technical assistance to Kazakhstan through a 2-year grant aimed at supporting the establishment of a sustainable agro-food system focused on agricultural growth, reducing environmental impact and achieving better food security and nutrition outcomes based on the National Agricultural Development Project priorities for 2021-2025.

Under the Technical Assistance, international experts together with the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan will conduct an in-depth analysis of the subsidy system, taking into account international experience in this area, effective measures of state support will be proposed, and assistance in the provision of financial assistance will be provided.

In addition, taking into account the climate change, the susceptibility of part of Kazakhstan to drought, the World Bank has developed a set of recommendations to reduce its impact on agriculture, the development of effective management and mitigation strategies. According to the assurance of the Kazakh side, these recommendations will be carefully studied by all relevant authorities.

The parties reaffirmed their commitment to achieving positive results through Technical Assistance and agreed to maintain a high level of communication.
