Armenia wants to establish wheat imports from Kazakhstan

Minister of Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia Armen Ghevondyan, World of NAN reports with reference to the Ministry of Agriculture.  

According to the Minister, Kazakhstan is interested in supplies of fresh fruits and early vegetables, nuts from Armenia, as well as in increasing supplies of confectionery and pasta products, chocolate and dairy products. Also, the potential for export of meat and meat products, sunflower oil is not fully utilized.

In turn, Armen Ghevondyan voiced a number of proposals. Thus, the Armenian side is interested in joint work on issues of breeding, seed production and grain supplies from Kazakhstan to Armenia.

"Kazakhstan occupies one of the leading positions in production and export of cereals. Your wheat is characterized by high gluten content and we would like to establish its supplies to Armenia. We ask you to assist us in this matter. We are also interested in phytosanitary security and veterinary issues," the Ambassador said.

Exports of agricultural products to Armenia totalled $2.9 million, imports - $6.3 million. Imports of agricultural products, in the form of fruit juices, mineral and aerated water, fermented drinks and tinned vegetables, increased last year.
