Deputy: farmers have been forced to throw away their milk

Majilis deputy Nurzhan Ashimbetov raised the sore point of dairy farmers, World of NAN reports.

According to him, farmers cannot sell milk to domestic processors. At the same time, the government has set a target of building hundreds of new dairy farms.

"There are cases in North Kazakhstan Region when owners of small farms are forced to pour milk on the street due to lack of demand. And this is the situation all over the country. We see a picture when huge public and private investments in the dairy industry can be wasted," the Deputy said.

According to his data, processors refuse to conclude additional supply contracts due to the importation of raw materials from neighbouring countries and a decrease in demand for their products.

"In order to conquer the Kazakh market, enterprises from neighbouring countries easily go for dumping, as a result domestic companies are left without funds and the dairy industry incurs losses. But it is not a fact that the prices of "partners" will remain at this level after the bankruptcy of domestic enterprises," the Deputy added.

The Deputy suggested revising the strategy for the development of the dairy industry by subsidising and exempting it from VAT. It is also necessary to legally protect the domestic market and work out export directions.
