MP urged to cancel export duty on sunflower seeds

Majilis deputy Serik Yegizbayev has called for the abolition of export duty on sunflower seeds from February 2024, reports World of NAN.

According to the deputy, taking into account carryover stocks, the annual total supply of sunflower seeds, including imports, is 2 times higher than the need for raw materials for the production and supply of sunflower oil to the domestic market. At the same time, the annual import of seeds from Russia reaches record levels. And today, apart from East-Kazakhstan region and Pavlodar region, farmers from North-Kazakhstan region, Kostanai region and Karaganda region have started to grow sunflower.

Abolition of the duty will allow domestic farmers to sell at a fair price the products that are in demand in Uzbekistan and China. The difference between the domestic and export price is currently about 60 thousand tenge per ton. Thus, taking into account the export potential of more than 226 thousand tons of sunflower, farmers will be able to generate income of more than 13 billion tenge.
