A farmer grows cucumbers hydroponically in North Kazakhstan region

The first innovative greenhouse in Petropavlovsk is considered a unique project to supply vegetables in the off-season, reports World of NAN with reference to "24KZ".

The greenhouse covers an area of 32,000 square meters and is used to grow cucumber of the Mewa variety. This is a smooth-fruited medium-fruited cucumber, the most popular among greenhouse crops in Kazakhstan. The maximum yield was obtained last weekend - 7.5 tons per day.

"Hydroponically refers to growing plants in an inert substrate without using soil. The root system develops by anchoring itself in a special mat. It can be made of mineral wool or coconut. Nutrition is supplied through drip lines to the root of each plant. The nutrition consists of mineral fertilizers and water," said Ekaterina Asayonok, Director of the greenhouse complex of Zeleny Sever LLP.

Next year the enterprise will launch the 2nd tomato compartment, its area will be twice as big. The total daily harvest of vegetables will be 16 tons. It is also planned to grow lettuce and herbs in the future.
