Farmers themselves protected their crops from locusts

In Kazakhstan, protective measures have been completed to treat land against locusts on an area of 2.8 million hectares, World of NAN reports with reference to the government.

Processing was difficult due to weather conditions and some of the locusts took wing, causing indignation among farmers. Today, there is a risk of pests arriving from border areas.

“On July 18-20, there were cases of Italian locusts flying from the Orenburg region to the Aitekebiysky district of Aktobe region. We promptly carried out the processing, and are now negotiating with the Russian side for a joint survey of the border area,” said Vice Minister of Agriculture Ermek Kenzhekhanuly.

It is worth noting that some farms did not wait for government help and cultivated part of the Russian territory 100 meters deep to protect their crops.
