Where is the logic? Sunflower exports reduced, while oil production fell

In January-December 2023, the country produced 409,200 tons of unrefined sunflower oil - 8.6% less than a year earlier. At the same time, production of refined oil decreased by 22.1% to 125,000 tons, reports World of NAN with reference to Energyprom.kz.

Recall that in February 2023, an export duty of 20% or a minimum of 100 euros per ton was introduced on the export of sunflower seeds. This was done to increase processing inside the country. But judging by statistical data, processing on the contrary has decreased. Was this the goal of our "highly intelligent" officials?

At the same time, processors increase exports and reduce domestic sales. From the beginning of 2023 to November 326.1 thousand tons of sunflower oil were exported from the country - 61% more than a year earlier. But sales in the domestic market amounted to 239.3 thousand tons, an annual decrease of 36.9%.
