Interesting statistics: every fourth farm is headed by a woman

Now every fourth (27.5 per cent) farm, company or individual entrepreneur in Kazakhstan's agro-industrial complex has a female face, reports World of NAN with reference to the monitoring agency Energyprom.kz.

83,800 Kazakh women in agriculture do not just milk cows and look after tomatoes in greenhouses, but also deal with taxes, apply for subsidies, buy breeding stock, make delicious cheese and grow bananas underground.

Over the past year, the total number of women-led agricultural producers increased by 12.2 per cent, from 74,700 to 83,800.

The bulk of them, 91.2 per cent, were peasant farms, joint-stock companies or LLPs. Only 8.8 per cent of such women's enterprises have the form of individual entrepreneurship.

The Turkestan region is the undisputed leader in women's farming in the country. There are 23,800 companies and IEs run by women. In general, the majority of all female farmers work in the south. Their total share is 68.7 per cent.
