In January-May, Kazakhstani suppliers sold abroad potatoes worth $31.7m, four times more than in the same period last year, World of NAN reports with reference to DATA HUB.
The current value was the highest for this period in at least a decade.
In terms of weight, it is also the maximum for 10 years: 294 thousand tonnes in 5 months of this year against 108 thousand tonnes in 2023. Accordingly, the average price increased due to the export of seed potatoes. This time farmers sold the product at an average price of $644 per tonne, which is seven times more expensive than a year earlier.
The main buyers are Turkmenistan, where all seed potatoes went, and Uzbekistan.
