Kassym-Jomart Tokayev: Without modern equipment the agro-industrial complex will not develop

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited the fields of "Service Zhars" LLP in the village of Baiterek, Kyzylzhar district, in North-Kazakhstan region. The head of the state got acquainted with the condition of the grain crops, inspected the agricultural machinery involved in the harvesting work.

During the conversation with the heads of agricultural organizations and machine operators Kassym-Jomart Tokayev reminded that in the recent Address he set a number of tasks for the development of the agricultural sector.

"We need to improve and put in order our subsidy policy. I said about this in the Address, here everything should be clear. There are opinions that in the future subsidies will be a thing of the past - they will be replaced by low-interest loans. But now we must help farmers," said the Head of State.

Along with that, the President pointed out the need for a flexible tariff policy, expressing concern about the reduction of exports of finished processed products, flour in particular.

"We traditionally supply flour to the markets of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan. I believe that the Government as a whole, the Ministry of Trade should more substantially deal with tariff regulation. The government raises the issue of introducing an export duty on grain in the future. But now, given the current situation, I think it is premature to do so. Therefore we should include the mechanism of subsidies to help commodity producers, especially flour producers. We must supply finished, processed products with a high level of added value," stressed Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The head of state also stated the need to provide the agro-industrial complex with advanced machinery.

"On the part of the government, agrarians should be assisted in providing such equipment. If there is no modern machinery, our agriculture will not develop. This is obvious. Therefore, the Government on my instruction will continue to implement the relevant policy. Second, this equipment should be available to all farmers. As for credits, this policy will be continued. The interest rate should be low. I place great importance on this issue," the President said.

In addition, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev heard a report from the Akim of North Kazakhstan region Kumar Aksakalov on the socio-economic situation in the region and the prospects for development of the agro-industrial complex.
