Kazakhstan may be left without rice

In eight auls of Zhanakorgan district of Kyzylorda region there is no water to submerge the rice checks. If there is no irrigation, it will significantly affect this year's rice crop, reports World of NAN with reference to Agroqogam.kz.

"In fact, the situation with irrigation water is difficult. Many have already cleaned canals, put pumps to pump water, but even this does not always help. We almost all have loans, how can we pay if the crop does not grow? For example, I alone have a loan of 400 million tenge," said local resident Kulmaganbet Isakhanov.

This year, the level of the Syrdarya River has risen. However, the amount of water flowing into the fields is low. All farms have already sown rice, but they need to flood it by June 10. Otherwise, the seeds will become fodder for birds.

"In the Jalagash, Karmaksha and Kazaly districts located in the lower reaches of the Syrdarya River, there is also a shortage of water. For example, in Zhalagash district there are peasants who do not receive water according to the plan. If this continues further, the flooding of rice may be delayed," explained Aidos Aysanbayev, head of the department of the Kyzylorda regional branch of RSE Kazvodkhoz.
