An Indian company has successfully recycled agricultural crop waste into boards and alternatives to packaging plastic, reports World of NAN.
Craste recycles waste rice, millet, sugarcane and barley. The idea came up because of an environmental problem with stubble burning. Farmers have to burn it to quickly clear the field of waste before new sowing.
‘Since I already had research experience with sustainable materials, I was keen on the idea of recycling this waste after harvesting,’ said founder Shubham Singh.
His idea has been supported by a number of organisations, with plans to open 10 small plants in India in the near future. The business has great prospects, as the country produces an average of 500 million tonnes of agricultural waste every year.
