A farmer from Zhambyl region is breeding pedigree sheep. Nurbek Kulbayev can earn up to 35 million tenge per year on pedigree young stock, World of NAN reports with reference to 24.kz.
The man started breeding small horned cattle 6 years ago, having bought only 1 koshkar of "Arashan" breed in Kyrgyzstan. To date, the cattle breeder has received 300 heads of litter.
"This occupation is not unfamiliar to me. At one time my grandfather was a shepherd. To continue his legacy, I am introducing my sons to this work," Nurbek Kulbayev said.
The Arashan sheep breed grows up to one meter tall and weighs up to 200 kilograms. The farmer has more than 60 such sheep in his herd, and now he is thinking of creating a large farm.
"We raise sheep not for slaughter, but for reproduction. We get about 40-50 lambs a year, of course, not all of them become big. The cost of 1 koshkar is 2-3 thousand dollars", - shared the farmer.
It should be noted that 425 farms are engaged in sheep breeding in the region. They keep 350 thousand heads of pedigree cattle. And the total number of sheep in the region is 3.5 million heads.
