The process of decarbonization will affect agriculture in Kazakhstan

An expert seminar was held in Astana as part of the improvement of climate legislation in Kazakhstan, reports World of NAN with reference to the Ministry of National Economy.

In his speech, First Vice Minister of National Economy Timur Zhaksylykov voiced the directions of development of the Roadmap for the implementation of the Strategy for achieving carbon neutrality until 2060.

According to him, the development of the Roadmap will require the formation of a unique model of energy transition for Kazakhstan, taking into account the specifics of the country.

"Decarbonization will affect almost all sectors of the economy, especially energy, industry, agriculture, waste management. Therefore, the roadmap should contain measures for the integrated implementation of low-carbon policy and the application of sectoral, cross-sectoral and cross-cutting approaches", - said T. Zhaksylykov.

Recall that agriculture is the first victim and one of the causes of climate change. The sector accounts for about 30% of total greenhouse gas emissions: chemical fertilizers, pesticides and animal waste.
