Despite Kazakhstan's import dependence on poultry meat, domestic producers, receiving multi-billion dollar subsidies, have increased exports almost threefold, World of NAN reports.
According to monitoring agency energyprom.kz, in January-June this year, the country produced 70.7 thousand tons of fresh or chilled poultry meat - 27.1% more than a year earlier. Frozen poultry meat produced 63.2 thousand tons - 1.8% less than a year earlier.
In January-May, local companies met demand (domestic sales plus exports) for poultry meat and edible by-products by 73.5%, compared to 72.2% a year earlier.
The share of imports amounted to 26.5%. Kazakhstan imported 49.1 thousand tons of white meat and by-products - 5.7% more than last year. At the same time, 14.1 thousand tons were exported, an increase of 2.8 times more.
Naturally, the growth of exports has reduced the supply in the domestic market and in June this year poultry prices rose by 10.8% in annual dynamics. Including chickens rose in price by 13.9%, hams - by 6%, chicken breast - by 18.2%, thighs and shanks - by 18.6%.
In the regional context, the highest growth in poultry prices was recorded in Pavlodar region: by 23.6%. West Kazakhstan region (plus 23.3%) and Kostanai region (plus 19.6%) were also among the three anti-leader regions.
