A new variety of hard winter wheat was created

The new variety, created in Samara region, is close to soft winter wheat in winter hardiness, but has all the qualitative advantages of hard wheat: in protein content, gluten, glassiness, reports World of NAN, referring to the Grain Soybean Union of the Volga Federal District.

It took scientists twenty years of painstaking selection work: individual selection of seeds for winter hardiness, productivity, grain quality and resistance to infections. In December 2022, the wheat variety "Koshelevskaya" was included in the state register for the 7th region.

The variety is medium maturing, has a growing season of 310-315 days. The plant height is 65-70 cm, which is perfect for mechanical harvesting. Also, the wheat is highly resistant to lodging, shattering and sprouting of grain in the ear, and spike diseases.

According to scientists, winter hard wheat with successful overwintering makes excellent use of late fall, winter and spring precipitation and forms a yield more than twice as high as spring hard wheat.

The maximum yield in the State trials of the variety showed this year and was 69.3 c/ha, with an average yield of 48.5 c/ha in the region. The quality corresponds to the first class: the protein content in the grain is 15.5-19.5%, the raw gluten is 32-40%. "Koshelevskaya" is excellent for processing into pasta and as an improver for baking.
