Subsidies for fish processing will be introduced in Kazakhstan

The corresponding draft by the Ministry of Agriculture was published on the website ‘Open NLA’, World of NAN reports.

Last year the number of fish farms doubled - 502 units, and the volume of farmed fish increased to 17 thousand tonnes. Also, about 45-50 thousand tonnes of fish are caught annually in natural water bodies of the country.

At the same time, the country imports about 53% of fish and processed products. That is, there are great prospects in the domestic market. There is also a huge potential for development, experts estimate it at 270 thousand tonnes of commercial products.

In general, the fishing industry is well supported by the state. For example, taxes are reduced by 70% for processing business projects. There are subsidies in the amount of 50% of the cost of fish planting material, medicines, 30% of the cost of feed. And from June 2022 there is a reimbursement of 25% of investment costs for the purchase of machinery and equipment for aquaculture.

The introduction of subsidizing the processing of fish products may be a promising endeavour, as the government has its own development plan and set indicators. By 2030, it is planned to increase fish farming to 270 thousand tonnes per year, increase consumption of fish products to 134 thousand tonnes per year, and increase the natural population of fish resources by 7%.
