The Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, announced the ministry's plans to increase irrigation water tariffs, reports World of NAN with reference to inform.kz.
"From January 1, 2024, the weighted average tariff will increase by 1 tenge per cubic meter. This will increase the wages of employees by 25%, the average salary will be 211 thousand tenge," the minister said.
In addition, over 100 billion tenge of additional investments in repair and reconstruction of irrigation systems will be raised within five years.
"In general, this measure should not adversely affect the cost of agricultural products, as the Ministry of Agriculture has a program to subsidize irrigation water from 50 to 85%. The state subsidizes irrigation water to farmers. If farmers use water-saving technologies, accordingly, subsidies will increase," concluded Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
