Flour price rises while export shares are decreasing

In Kazakhstan, the growth of flour prices is registered in all regions of the country. At the same time, production and export of flour decreased, World of NAN reports with reference to the monitoring agency Energyprom.kz.

According to the monitoring agency, in January-July 2021, domestic mills produced 1.8 million tons of flour and mixtures of fine milled cereals, 3.7% less than a year earlier. The drop in production is due to growing competition in Uzbekistan, where flour is priced lower. This also had an impact on exports. In January-July 2021, Kazakhstan exported 749.1 thousand tons of flour worth USD 207.6 million. Decrease in exports was 11.5%, in monetary terms at once by 12.1%.

Afghanistan remains the main importer of Kazakhstani flour, they bought 486.1 thousand tons of flour for $ 138.6 million in 7 months. However, today the situation in Afghanistan is not stable, and where domestic flour millers will sell goods in the future is not known yet. Uzbekistan remains the main importer among the CIS countries, they purchased 179 thousand tons.

Kostanay region remains the leader in flour production, with flour mills in the region increasing their growth rate. As such, for 7 months they milled 587.3 thousand tons of flour, an increase of 7.8% for the year. Production also increased in the North-Kazakhstan region 176.1 thousand tons, plus 3%. In contrast, Shymkent city gave up its position by 17.4% and milled only 189.1 thousand tons.

Most of the output falls on the production of wheat flour 92.8%, or 1.7 million tons. It is worth noting that the local companies satisfy the demand for flour almost completely, 99.5% by the results of the first half of 2021.

Despite the overproduction of flour in the country, its prices continue to grow. According to the monitoring agency, in the annual dynamics the cost increased by 11.1%. Residents of Zhambyl region felt it the most, there the price grew by 23.4%. Residents of North-Kazakhstan region, despite the leadership in production, also buy flour 21.3% more expensive.
