Turkey will close wheat imports

Turkey's Agriculture Ministry has announced that it will ban wheat imports from 21 June to mid-October this year to protect Turkish farmers from falling prices, World of NAN reports.

According to a preliminary forecast, Turkey's wheat harvest this year is estimated at about 21 million tons. The import ban will protect local grain producers during the new harvest.

These actions will lead to even greater price fluctuations in the volatile global grain market. Over the past 2023, Russia exported over 7 million tons of wheat to Turkey. Kazakhstan also exported over 156,000 tons of wheat.

The Turkish ministry also noted that exports of flour from domestically produced wheat will be allowed, which has been banned since September 2018.
