According to the monitoring agency Energyprom.kz, Kazakhstan has increased imports of flour from abroad by 40%, while increasing exports by almost 12%, World of NAN reports.
Domestic flour mills met 98.6% of the sector's demand in January-August 2023. Imports accounted for only 1.4%, so the volume of flour imports for the year increased by 40.7%, reaching 27.9 thousand tons.
Export of flour increased by 11.9%, up to 1.2 million tons.
However, Kazakh flour is losing its reputation on the export market in Afghanistan. Therefore, it can easily be replaced by cheaper Russian flour.
Prices for flour by the end of September of this year increased only by 1.5% over the year. At the same time, a year earlier there was an increase of 43.1%. It should be noted that flour has been rising in price for 10 years in a row.
Flour rose in price in 11 out of 20 regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Prices rose most noticeably in Atyrau region: by 15.6% per year. Almaty and Kyzylorda regions followed: by 9.9% and 9.2% respectively.
