Belgian startup has released innovative stickers, which, as the creators promise, keep fruits fresh for about two weeks and reduce the loss of sellers up to 30%, reports World of NAN.

According to foreign media reports, the "StixFresh" stickers protect fruits from spoilage by natural compounds that are naturally released by plants to protect themselves from diseases. The new solution has been successfully tested on mangoes, strawberries, raspberries, grapes, peaches, cherries and avocados.

The stickers can be stored for up to three months in the original sealed package. Once removed from the packaging, they are immediately activated.

The founders of the startup have already conducted several pilot projects with retailers and distributors. They have reported an impressive 15 to 30 percent reduction in strawberry, blueberry, nectarine and tangerine losses.

"About 60% of consumers agree that fresh produce spoils before they even have a chance to consume it. In addition, 57% are interested in organic, non-GMO fruit, which tends to spoil faster. Now, food waste makes up about a quarter of our landfills, most of which are fruits and vegetables because of their minimal shelf life," Moody Soliman, CEO and founder of the project, told reporters.

The creators of the stickers believe their product will help distributors and large retailers offer high-quality products without worrying about their reputation.

The company plans to introduce its product to the general public in the very near future.

"Ordinary consumers are our next target segment. We want them to be able to buy stickers they can use at home," the company said.
