Greenhouse on water

Saline, degraded soils and the high price of farmland are forcing many farmers abroad to look for alternative methods of farming. For instance, just recently a French agricultural engineer came up with his own method of growing fruits and vegetables directly on water, reports World of NAN referring to Paysans Terre Mer.

To solve environmental problems, François Plassard, a doctor of economics created an aquaponic greenhouse, which he called "La Tortue Maraichère" - "The Sea Turtle".

According to the creator, the eco-friendly greenhouse provides itself with energy thanks to solar panels. In addition, it is protected from adverse weather conditions and is economical. Water efficiency, according to the engineer, is almost 85%.

Installed in the department of Aude, the floating structure allows you to grow vegetables, fruits, seedlings, fodder, flowers, as well as algae and even fish. And all without the use of fertilizers or pesticides.

In the face of the new challenges posed by climate change, the engineer advocates for new agriculture. Growing on water is an alternative for growers facing high land costs and soil salinity, argues F. Plassard.

"We would like to create a new profession of 'water-based producers' and a new way of life that combines food and health. What life has laid down in the sea is a model of circular production based on an exchange between fish, filter molluscs and algae, where nothing is lost and everything is transformed," explains François Plassard, who is experimenting with new methods of farming on the coast.
